Nestlé Canada celebrates Pride Month 2021

What is Nestlé Canada doing?

June marks Pride Month, a month recognizing global celebration that recognizes the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of the LGBTQ+ community around the world. Pride month supports our LGBTQ+ communities in the pursuit of unequivocal rights to be known, be heard, be understood, be accepted and be respected.

At Nestlé Canada, diversity and inclusion is the foundation of our strength. It is one of the ways we bring our purpose and values to life. We embrace diversity by being more inclusive, creating a workplace that provides equal opportunities for everyone and that treats people with dignity and respect. We believe that we all play an integral part in helping drive better outcomes for the LGBTQ+ community. As per our Code of Business Conduct, Nestlé does not tolerate discrimination or harassment “on the basis of origin, nationality, religion, race, gender, age or sexual orientation”.

While we acknowledge we need to continue to challenge ourselves to do more to foster an even more diverse and inclusive culture at Nestlé Canada, we have made some important changes to-date.

At Nestlé Canada, here are a few examples of what we’ve done to-date:

  • In 2020, employees at Nestlé Canada launched a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) Committee, focused on five key streams including gender, race & ethnicity, mental wellness, LGBTQ+ and accessibility. The DE&I Committee developed organically to increase awareness and champion open and honest discussions throughout all levels across the organization;
  • In 2020, we launched the e-learning “Diversity & Inclusion at Nestlé: LGBTQ+ Community” which focuses on fostering inclusion for the LGBT+ community, and forms part of our expanding D&I learning curriculum. It is intended to further strengthen our diverse & inclusive culture at Nestlé.
  • In 2021, as part of our DE&I Committee, a Nestlé Pride Alliance launched and is committed to promoting an inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued, equal and comfortable bringing their whole selves to work.
  • In honour of PRIDE Month, the Nestlé Pride Alliance is hosting a number of events and activities for our employees to participate in, including a Workshop on Workplace Inclusion for Gender and Sexual Diversity, as well as a Fireside Chat with Michelle Emson (she/her) – an international human rights advocate specializing in diversity and inclusion, trans rights, 2SLGBTQI issues, and mental health.

We look forward to continuing to grow and learn and evolve our practices to better ensure we’re supporting our employees and building and fostering an environment where they can truly thrive.
